The Hubei Association of Southern California was founded in 1985 in Los Angeles by General Wang Ziqing, a Hubei native from Taiwan. Wang Ziqing was the first president. The second and third presidents were Xu Yongnong and Lu Qiang, who held exhibitions on historical materials related to Hubei, and began to receive visiting groups from their Chinese hometown Hubei. In 2003, the fourth president Shuai Qing, revised the articles of association; In 2011, the sixth president Luo Zailing and former President Huang Zuhua were invited back to Wuhan to participate in the centenary of the Xinhai Revolution, and in June 2012, the Dragon Boat Festival was held to commemorate Qu Yuan.

Ding Lihua was elected as the seventh president in September 2014 and held a grand inauguration ceremony in January 2015. During her term of office, she established a financial system, revised the constitution of the association, expanded the contact of the folks, registered a list of 687 people, initiated the permanent membership system, and developed a total of 82 permanent members; Completed the emblem with the theme of “Nine head Aconite” and distinctive Hubei characteristics, the anthem “Song of Nine Head Aconite”, the emblem, the emblem, the emblem, the costume, the emblem, and the website (www.hubeiusa.org). The publication of the first issue of “Jiutou Wu”, the Dragon Boat Festival as the festival of the association was written into the charter, the anniversary, the handover are held during the Dragon Boat Festival, held in 2015 to commemorate Qu Yuan and the 30th anniversary of the association, has received the provincial Federation of Overseas Chinese, the provincial Science and Technology Department delegation. In 2016, at the annual meeting of the Dragon Boat Festival, the first scholarship was awarded to receive the famous hometown female singer Chen Juan, etc. In particular, when Wuhan was hit by a flood, relatives and compatriots were mobilized to donate 100,000 yuan to send disaster relief funds back to their hometown, expanding the positive influence of the association in their hometown.

In April 2017, the Association elected Zhao Lin as the eighth (term) President in accordance with the rules and regulations. In the face of difficulties and pressures, he led the Council to further revise the constitution and improve the system, re-establish the posts of chief supervisor and chairman, and improve the registration of non-profit organizations again. Organized and participated in many public welfare activities and actively interacted with other organizations. In 2018, I organized a spring outing, participated in the opening of the friendship Wall of “Flying Tigers, Sino-American Love” and other activities, and in October, the Northern California Hometown Association jointly established the “California Hubei Hometown Association”. In February 2019, the Lantern Festival Gala was held and the first Spring Festival Gala of “Chinese Dream, Chu Hometown” was organized. In May, Zhao Lin was re-elected as the ninth President in accordance with the rules of the association, and the inauguration ceremony of the change of term was organized and the first “Chu Tian Talents – Li Yaozhen” scholarship was awarded. In the face of the new coronavirus epidemic in 2020, we will first jointly organize and raise more than 100,000 US dollars of epidemic prevention materials to support our hometown with our fellow villagers in Northern California, and then distribute epidemic prevention supplies to local villagers. In 2021, organized fundraising for Henan flood in July; Participating in meaningful activities such as the 110th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution. During the five years of Zhao Lin’s tenure as president, he expanded the participation and influence of the association in Nanga and his hometown in Hubei Province.

In May 2022, Li Hongjian was elected as the 10th president of the Association and formed a new council team. In August, the celebration of the General Assembly and the awarding of the second “Chutian Meritocta-Li Yaozhen” scholarship were held. In February 2023, the train trip to San Diego was organized, and the inauguration ceremony of the Association’s consultant Lisa Liu as the president of the Orange County Chinese Chamber of Commerce was held. Since the 8th session, nearly 50 new permanent members have been developed. Now, facing the end of the COVID-19 epidemic, our association will immediately hold the “Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival and the 38th Anniversary of the establishment of Hubei Association in Southern California” in June, and will also assist the American Zen Culture Center to hold a performance of the “Rooftop Zen Music Global Tour” from our hometown in Los Angeles. The Association is playing a more positive role for Fu Chengcheng to promote Fu Jingchu culture, care and unite the villagers, and integrate into the American society!
